THE FIG AT FRESKON
This year, Freskon brings figs to the forefront with a workshop focused on cultivation and trade discussions, organized by Fruitoneers. Figs are a very popular fruit, yet they have not received the marketing attention they deserve within the agricultural product structures in our country. The workshop will focus on the sustainable development of fig cultivation in Greece and abroad, emphasizing the prospects for expanding production and marketing.
Workshop Aspects:
- New varieties adapted to Greek and international climatic conditions
- Management of natural resources to increase productivity
- Challenges in marketing figs in domestic and international markets
- Promotion of Greek production abroad
Industry professionals will present modern trends in cultivation, the best practices for producing high-quality fruits, as well as strategies related to packaging and extending the product’s shelf life, with a particular emphasis on the requirements of international markets.
Note: The exact program will be available soon.
THE "CHALLENGES" OF THE LOTUS
Freskon 2025 will take the lotus to the stage and address all the challenges of cultivation, post-harvest processing, and marketing. As part of the promotion of alternative crops that thrive abroad but are of lesser importance in our country, a special forum for the lotus will be organized by Fruitoneers. This event will feature significant commercial representatives from both Greece and abroad. A highlight will be the presence of Mr. Pascual Prats, head of the most important European federation, the Asociación Española de Kaki.
Note: The exact program will be available soon.
WORKSHOP ON YELLOW KIWI
Building on the great success of last year’s workshop on kiwifruit, this year’s Freskon International Fruit and Vegetable Exhibition will highlight the new star of the global industry: the yellow kiwi, which is now beginning to gain ground in our country. However, for it to firmly establish itself, knowledge is essential, and that knowledge will be provided by Freskon’s specialized workshop on yellow kiwi, scheduled for April 12. Yellow kiwis, with their distinct flavor and exceptional nutritional characteristics, are a product with significant potential. The workshop will focus on kiwi varieties best suited to the Greek climate, planting techniques, and cultivation practices that ensure a healthy and high-quality yield.
Additionally, the workshop will offer practical advice on improving plantation efficiency, using technology to prevent and manage diseases, as well as the most effective harvesting and storage methods. Furthermore, the commercial prospects of yellow kiwi will be discussed, both in the domestic and international markets, with an emphasis on the importance of quality certification, which paves the way for exports and better pricing.
Speakers
The keynote speaker at this workshop will be Professor Athanasios Molassiotis from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who recently traveled to New Zealand and has first-hand knowledge of the cultivation, harvesting, and storage techniques employed by the New Zealanders. He will present these techniques at the beginning of the session.
Following his presentation, a discussion will take place between Professor Molassiotis, Mr. Takis Orfanos, publisher of Froutonea magazine, and Mr. Fotis Karampetsos, editor of the same publication. They will engage with Professor Molassiotis through targeted questions to explore the cultivation prospects of this product.
